Art and Artifacts

This section,"Art and Artifacts", presents the main themes of this program from a 〝cultural and artistic perspective〞.

We have now scanned 734 images and established 407 units of Metadata.

  1. 柏孜克里克 (?) Grotto, 3D Virtual Reality (newly added section):
We have obtained permission from Mainland Chinese scholar Mr. Xu Dongliang to use his 柏孜克里克 grotto and 3D virtual reality images. Graceful music complements the visual design of this program, which presents the historical origin of the 柏孜克里克 grotto, in addition to simulating its interior appearance.

  2. Analyzing and Appreciating the Grottos:
We have completed introductions for the caves of Gansu and Xinjiang Provinces with both verbal and visual descriptions. We now have new editions of Xinjiang Turfan (吐峪溝grotto), Xinjiang Yanqi (明屋grotto), Xinjiang Kuche (克孜爾grotto, 庫木吐拉 grotto, 森木撒姆grotto, 克孜爾(口+葛)哈 grotto), and Afghanistan (巴美揚梵衍那grotto).

  3. Mural Series:
This part of the web page presents a mural series in the Dunhuang caves. We use 360 visual imagery to create a 2D virtual reality simulation, together with a written description, in order to explain the complete story of the mural series.

  4. A Selection of Cultural Artifacts:
In this section we collect and classify relevant sculptures, paintings, tools, and Buddhist images, including cultural artifacts related to Dharma-master Xuanzang and Tang dynasty China, Central Asia, and India. Related web sites for each of these classifications have been designed (the next part of the sentence is repetitive and is not related to the first part of the sentence, so I have not translated it; it should be omitted). We have also designed the following simultaneous updating method. Picture images, geographical landscapes, or historical backdrops are provided, along with windows containing related information. When users browse one topic they can obtain related information and achieve a more comprehensive understanding of their topic.
